Dear Friends,

Girl Scouts of Nassau County’s Girl Scouts Where You Live brings staff-led troops and series programs into communities where a lack of adult volunteers, family stresses, lack of convenient and safe transportation, time commitments, cultural or language barriers and/or lack of financial resources would deprive girls of the opportunity to participate in Girl Scouts,  and all the leadership and learning opportunities that Girl Scouting provides.

Two particular staff-led troops that are near to my heart are Troops 4100 at 100 Terrace Avenue and Troop 1397 at Barack Obama Elementary in Hempstead.  GSNC’s ability to provide staff leadership and financial assistance to these troops means the girls are able to reap the benefits of all that Girl Scouting Leadership Experience has to offer.

Over the years, the girls in these troops have gained important skills in STEM, Outdoors, Life Skills, and Entrepreneurship – the foundation of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.  These girls have attended camp at Blue Bay in the Hamptons, attended Broadway shows in NYC, enjoyed live musical and cultural shows with the opportunity to interact with the professional actors, musicians and back-stage crews.  They have learned sportsmanship from local college athletes, learned how to care for themselves from local healthcare providers, visited local ethnic restaurants to sample different foods and cultures. They have given back to their school and community through service projects.  These girls are not only the leaders of tomorrow in their communities but the leaders of today.

I hope you will join me in supporting these girls on their exciting journey!

With thanks,
Andrea
